Our History and Future
Oak City has a rich history and a bright future. Established in 1891, Oak City (first known as "Goose Nest") began as a small, rural trading center around a collection of farmhouses.
The town continues to be a strong community by attracting new residents and businesses, expanding services offered to citizens, and becoming a proactive leader in community awareness and involvement.

We are dedicated to open, effective, and progressive government that values the opinion of all stakeholders. Come join our beautiful town and see all that we have to offer! Town meetings are usually held on the First Monday of the month at Town Hall beginning at 7 PM. If there is a holiday on the First Monday, then the meeting is scheduled for the following Wednesday. Need to pay your utility bill?
Stop in between regular business hours to make your payment. We accept credit card (Visa, MasterCard) or checks/money orders. Cash is not accepted! A $500.00 deposit is required on utility bills for people renting and $250.00 for people buying a home. Utility bills are due on the 15th on every month and cut off dates are the 2nd Monday of the following month with a $10.00 late fee for past due payments.
