Formed in 2018, Kids Computers in Carolina, Inc. was founded after recognizing that several low-wealth communities in counties across the Coastal Plain of North Carolina have families without computer systems in their homes. In addition, Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael both left a devastating impact in many counties in our region. Many families lost everything, including technology they may have had in their homes. Our mission is to take donated computers and refurbish them to working order, which in return are donated to qualified children or families in low-wealth communities in our region.
Our non-profit organization solely depends on donations of used working and non-working computer systems, as well as monetary donations. Monetary donations are used to purchase replacement parts and licensing for these computers, as well as for required mission-related expenses to operate the non-profit organization run strictly by volunteers. There are times when opportunities arise for the organization to purchase working and non-working computer systems from government surplus.
Volunteers of the organization are not paid by any means for their service to refurbishing these computer systems and preparing them for children or families.
